ELISHA CUMMINGS (bp. 1719), son of Isaac Cummings and Abigail Boardman

MARY ANDREWS (1725 – by 1776), daughter of John Andrews and Patience Andrews


Elisha Cummings was baptized on 2 August 1719 in Topsfield. [1][2] He married first Mary Andrews of Boxford on 22 November 1744 in Topsfield. [3] He married second Jemima, the widow of Caleb Marston, on 30 July 1776 in Newmarket, New Hampshire. [4][5]

Mary Andrews was born on 26 April 1725 in Boxford. [6] She was baptized in February 1719/20. [6]

Ensign Elisha Cummings of Topsfield was a soldier in Captain Israel Davis's company, Colonel Bagley's regiment in the French and Indian Wars. He was on the Crown Point Expedition in February 1756 and at Fort William Henry in August 1756. [7]

Elisha was in Topsfield in 1757, but left sometime after for Bridgewater, New Hampshire. [8]

Children of Elisha Cummings and Mary Andrews:

i. Mary Cummings was born on 13 February 1745/6 in Topsfield. [1] She married John Bradford of Pelham. [4] John Bradford may be the son of John and Elizabeth Leech, born 16 November 1748 in Beverly. [9] Lieutenant John Bradford died on 22 March 1822, age 73. Mary, the wife of John Bradford died on 6 March 1826, age 80. John and Mary are buried in the Atwood Cemetery in Pelham, New Hampshire. [10]

John Bradford of Pelham, gentleman, made his will on 23 February 1821; an executor was appointed on 7 May 1822. He mentioned his wife Mary and children Robert, Polly Sergeant and Andrew C. [11]

ii. John Cummings was baptized on 13 September 1747. [1] John, the infant son of Elisha, died on 24 September 1747 in Topsfield. [12]

iii. John Cummings (twin) was born on 8 February 1748/9. [4]

iv. Andrew Cummings (twin) was born on 8 February 18[7?]48/9 in Topsfield. [1] He died on 12 February 1748/9. [4]

v. Isaac Cummings was born on 24 April 1751 in Topsfield. [1] He married Betsey Boynton. [13]

He is probably the Isaac Cummings who served in Stark's First New Hampshire Regiment in the Revolutionary War. [14]

vi. Elisha Cummings was born on 20 September 1754 in Topsfield. [1] He married Elizabeth Marston. [15]

vii. Nathaniel Cummings was born on 16 June 1761. He died on 30 October 1818 in New Hampton, New Hampshire. He married Mary Crawford.

viii. Hannah Cummings married John Russell. [4]

Children of Elisha and Jerusha Cummings:

ix. Andrew Cummings was born on 10 May 1777 in Bridgewater. [16] He died of palsy on 15 August 1868, age 88, in Bridgewater. [17] He married Hannah Crawford on 28 July 1801 in New Hampton. [14][18]
